How very exciting. London Cocktail Week starts today, 7th October.

To celebrate this fact, here’s the recipe for one of their favourite cocktails – a White Lady – which is as equally easy to make as it is to drink.

Helen Sharman-Cox, organiser-extraordinaire of London Cocktail Week cites this as her favourite cocktail because as well as being delicious it was originally created in London.

It is a simple but lovely classic drink  with a sour finish, created in 1919 by Harry MacElhone, when was working at Ciro’s Club, London, England. Now the White Lady is considered the archetypal cocktail associated with the Savoy Hotel.

Glass: Martini
Garnish: Lemon zest twist
Method: SHAKE all ingredients with ice and fine strain into chilled glass.

¾ shots Bombay London dry gin
1 shot Cointreau triple sec
1 shot Freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 fresh Egg white

Incidently, The American Bar at the Savoy is on the London Cocktail Week Cocktail Tours. How very handy.
