Frith and Little is probably East Dean’s worst kept secret. This small deli and cafe, located on the genteel green of East Dean, East Sussex, is perfect for those desiring a touch of sophistication amongst the twee.

The owners, Andy and Cathy, have spent many years living in London and it shows through in their choice of products, cheeses, meats and pastries. This is certainly no countryside tea shop. Expect pastries and breads from The Bexhill Farm Bakery – a favourite being the amazing almond croissants that have yet to be replicated to any great success elsewhere.

Being able to sit amongst the vast array of Spanish and Italian delicacies on offer is always a pleasure, with great care taken over presentation. there’s always something new to look at and the selection of local ales and wines is always worth checking.

It’s not a large place, and in summer it’s often difficult to get a seat – but there’s nothing to stop you grabbing one of the gorgeous bacon and tomato rolls an taking it to the green or walking the short distance to Birling Gap. The coffee and hot chocolate is always good and Andy and Cathy are always friendly without being obtrusive. It’s a rare occurence that you would go for just a coffee and not leave without buying your lunch, dinner and breakfast.
